Goldy has been Section 31’s Rear Admiral for
a long time, and has recently been promoted
to Vice Admiral. Well known for hoarding
cookies and locking Patrick and Rambo up in
the S31 Dungeon, he is a great guy, aside from
those two things!
SPOTLIGHT ON GOLDY
What is one thing you love most about the 12th?
The one thing I love the most about this fleet is a pretty difficult
question, as there are about 40 things I love about this place lol.
If I had to choose just one then I would say the people that we
have here in the fleet. I can honestly say, hand on heart, that
without them I would have stopped playing by now. I love noth-
ing better than logging in and having a laugh on TS, or 12th chat
or, usually, both. I’ve made friends for life during my time here,
too many to list really. Oh, and the forums. I don’t post much,
but I do enjoy a laugh on the forums as well
How did the cookies and dungeon joke start?
Hahaha, I wondered if those two would come up! My memory
isn’t as good as it used to be, but I think that the cookies one
came from Vorden, Bane and a few others. People just seemed
to jump on it from there on out, with even Taoron (our very own
cookie monster) getting involved!
The dungeon one is slightly easier to explain, I think? I was
taking part in a Mirror Universe forum RP that Medical were do-
ing, and I was playing a guy nicknamed Snakebite who liked to
torture people. In one of the S31 threads at the time, someone
was cheeky (in a funny way) and I told them to report to the
dungeon. It all just snowballed from there, and I knew it wasn’t
going anywhere when one day I saw in 12th Chat “I’d rather go
to the lab than that dungeon I’ve heard about”. It’s stuck ever
since, and looks like it’s here to stay for a while yet.
What made you originally decide to play STO?
My mate Barry was involved with the closed beta, and was
always going on and on about STO, but I was never very inter-
ested in MMO’s (STO was my first ever). About 6 months or so
after the game was launched, Baz and I were playing golf and he
wouldn’t shut up about it until I agreed that I would give it a go,
so I did. I played it for around 3 months then left for the same
period. When I came back, I rolled a new Toon, got to Captain,
and then joined 12th Fleet, a decision that I’ve never regretted.
What is your favourite thing to do in STO?
That’s not fair Cass, far too difficult a question I like pretty
much all of it, the FE’s, the PvE campaigns, STF’s, FA’s, RP, and
Patrick & Sysil have even gotten me into some PvP. I’ve been
enjoying Season 7 and exploring New Romulus, and can’t wait
for Q’s event (which will have started once this is published). If I
HAD to choose just 1 thing, it would be any of the above as long
as there are a group of us together on TS running it, having a
laugh and talking nonsense like we usually do.
How high on the trek geek’o’meter are you?
Really, not very high. I would probably have to say that I am a
4 or 5 out of 10, if that. I used to collect the TNG figures when
I was younger, Gowron and his targ being my favourite. I own 2
of the TNG films on DVD and that’s it, though I do have Voyager
& DS9 on my PC. Don’t get me wrong, I love Star Trek, but there
are far bigger fans out there than me.
What is your favourite thing about Star Trek, in general?
Deanna Troi, Jadzia Dax, Seven of Nine & T’Pol Seriously, I like
the idea that there is a huge galaxy out there with who knows
how many species, and that we can potentially do Star Trek
for real! The idea that we can explore the galaxy and meet new
races etc. So, for me, the possibility that maybe one day I’ll get
to fire a real quantum torpedo...
