BLOODSPILLIN’
There are dozens of videos on YouTube about Star Trek Online. Most of
them are tutorials with a bad voiceover or a single STF with an over-modu-
lated sound track. When I encounter these, I just keep on moving. There is
always something better.
In fact, there is something better. Our own Bloodspillin is a videographer in
his own right. His YouTube channel, toomanyadds, chronicles many aspects
of Star Trek Online life, but does it in a way that makes us happy to be
watching the video.
His latest work, commissioned by Forge04, has a M.A.C.O.-centric focus and
demonstrates Blood’s affection for his work. He sets up shots carefully and
uses 12th fleet members to create the scene. Whether it calls for a forma-
tion of ships, or a bunch of crazy M.A.C.O.’s jumping from the second story
in Quark’s bar, Blood is able to bring it together in an emotionally compel-
ling way.
When you watch this video, you really want to be part of M.A.C.O. Not be-
cause you want to swing in the ceiling, but because you want to do it with
friends.
This is a key part of all Blood’s videos. He rarely focuses on any single player.
Rather, he embraces the community in his work, bringing us all into the
magical world he has captured. He does it with familiar images and scenes
and doesn’t add any special effects that aren’t already there. By doing so,
he shows our own world is more magical than we realize if we only look at it
through his lens.
You can find Bloodspillin’s work at his YouTube channel, toomanyadds. I
encourage you to look at his entire catalogue because it not only charts his
own journey through the galaxy, but ours as well.
You can find his latest video on the forum. Look for the thread, “MACO video
is done!” in The Foxhole, or you can follow the direct link here:
. From there you can review his other
works and subscribe to his channel.
